The Controller leads the day-to-day operations of a property accounting team, overseeing all aspects of real estate financial reporting and team management. This role plans and executes monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting cycles for a portfolio of properties, while developing staff and refining operational processes.

What you will be doing

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual property accounting cycles including close processes, budget preparation, and tenant operating cost adjustments
  • Manage property accounting team workloads, performance evaluations, and ongoing training on systems and procedures
  • Communicate with property site staff, leasing personnel, and management to ensure timely service delivery
  • Maintain and update all property accounting procedure documentation
  • Identify and resolve accounting issues, taking decisive action when required
  • Drive continuous improvement of departmental processes and complete special projects as assigned

What the role requires

  • Five to ten years of experience in real estate accounting with staff supervision responsibilities
  • Professional accounting certification
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and technical accounting skills
  • Highly developed organizational and detail-oriented capabilities
